In “My Baby Grand,” Matt Wilson’s tribute to the great piano players in rock ‘n roll, Matt lives up to his reputation of “piano man.” From a career that’s led him from piano bars, to Broadway and touring as the lead in Billy Joel and Twyla Tharp’s Tony award-winning “Movin’ Out,” Matt recalls his renditions from piano greats such as: Ray Charles, Billy Joel, Dr. John, Stevie Wonder, Ben Folds and Carole King. The show features interactive video production complete with stage lighting, video screens and live camera work. Wilson’s band includes Greg Williams on sax, Matt Muehling on guitar, Steve Zirkel on vocals and bass, Laura Mordecai on vocal and percussion and Mike Kopp on drums.
Known locally for his recent performances at the Dell Children’s Gala, Tribeza Style Week fashion show at the Long Center, Zach Scott Theater, Tex Arts and the Spicewood Arts Society, Wilson is a native of Dallas, and graduate of the University of Texas. His music career started early when he played drums and piano in church where his father was the pastor and played the organ. Growing up with lots of gospel and oldies, like Jerry Lee Lewis, influenced his sound, which combines rock and roll, country and R&B.
What Matt loves most is connecting people to music. A renowned entertainer, audience members find themselves singing along, thoroughly engaged in the performance.
